The Columbus Comeback

Columbus Day 2025 is nearly upon us, and we have much to celebrate.

Call it the Columbus Comeback.

For the last four years the Columbus holiday has been under attack. Bowing to the “woke movement,” the former administration sought to cancel the holiday dedicated to the singularity of the 1492 union of the two hemispheres. Four centuries later, in 1892, impoverished and beleaguered Italian Americans living in New York City stepped up and declared, “To the world, he gave a world” which is inscribed on the Columbus statue at Columbus Circle.

Today, woke is broke.

Regardless of your political views we must sincerely appreciate that President Trump has been an extraordinary friend to the Italian American community.  His Columbus Day 2025 Proclamation has restored the holiday to its proper place of respect and honor. We support Indigenous People’s Day and truly respect their rightful celebration on their own special separate day.

Respect for one another in harmony is the fabric that makes our country great. But there remains those who would seek to continue to divide us. Zohran Mamdani, Socialist mayor candidate for New York City,  Zohran Mamdani will bring a regressive life in New York.

He is not respectful of Italian Americans, having called for the removal of Columbus memorials. His stand on Israel is offensive to our Jewish brothers and sisters and all people of good faith.  His calls to defund the police, destabilize housing policy, decriminalize prostitution and push reckless experiments that prove he is unfit to lead. New York. We need pragmatic leadership, not dangerous ideology.

A well-informed voting public will not elect an unqualified and divisive person. Zohran Mamdani’s extreme and unrealistic agenda would divide our city and put New Yorkers at risk.
