On July 16th we celebrated the birthday of the saintly Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini. She led a life of sacrifice, unwavering commitment, and extraordinary strength, standing against all odds to serve and protect those most in need.

Her special dedication to Italian American immigrants, who were often treated with prejudice and injustice, remains a powerful testament to her courage and determination. Despite countless obstacles and the refusal of many to care for these newly arrived immigrants, Mother Cabrini never wavered in her mission. It is no wonder that she was canonized as a saint.

When we reflect on her remarkable accomplishments, we are reminded that throughout her lifetime she exemplified the strength, compassion, and perseverance of a determined woman. Her legacy is a powerful reminder of how women have shaped humanity through faith, service, and selfless devotion, and why their contributions deserve our deepest respect and recognition.

I was truly blessed to serve as Co-Chair of the extraordinary committee established by then-Governor Andrew Cuomo to create the magnificent Mother Cabrini statue that now stands at the southern tip of Manhattan, appropriately facing the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. I encourage everyone to visit this inspiring monument and reflect on what one extraordinary woman accomplished in her lifetime—a legacy that continues to inspire generations.

May Mother Cabrini’s life be a beacon for all of us. Each of us has the opportunity and responsibility to make this troubled world a better place. Lasting change begins with each one of us.
